An Interview with Nancy Day

VV: How long have you been a TIR trainer?

Nancy: Since 1996

VV: What inspired you to become a TIR trainer?

Nancy: Having been a Certified TIR and Applied Metapsychology Facilitator for several years, it was the logical next step in providing Applied Metapsychology services in Kansas City and elsewhere.

VV: What do you find rewarding about it?

Nancy: Providing continuing education for the Kansas City mental health community is rewarding because I enjoy working with people who share my interest in helping people resolve psychological issues. I also find it rewarding to have something of value to offer to others at the grassroots level. It has been Dr. Gerbode's intention from the beginning to empower all people who have a sincere desire to help others relieve psychological distress, and I share this goal.

VV: Are you willing to travel to deliver training, if so under what conditions?

Nancy: Yes. I have a predictable quarterly schedule of trainings in Kansas City which allows me to add out-of-town workshops to my training schedule whenever I receive a request. To date, I've enjoyed training people in the Heartland of America and on the West Coast; and I have also had the priviledge to train native people in Northern British Columbia, Canada. I have experience organizing workshops with local people wherever there is a request for TIR and Life Stress Reduction training.

VV: Do you have a private practice?

Nancy: Yes. In addition to facilitating viewing sessions and presenting professional skills workshops, I also supervise post-workshop internships for practitioners who want to become confident and competent with their newly acquired skills as quickly as possible and/or who want help with their TIR facilitator certification application. I also offer advanced training for facilitators who want the Applied Metapsychology Curriculum for themselves and for their clients.

VV: Besides TIR, what other things are you interested in?

Nancy: My main focus in life is my work and providing support for my mentally disabled brother for whom I am guardian. I really enjoy my interactions with the people I meet through my work as a facilitator and as a trainer. Other personal interests include maintaining a backyard wildlife habitat, exercise and a healthy diet.

VV: Describe your professional background?

Nancy: I have been studying with Frank A. Gerbode, M.D., the primary developer of TIR, since 1991. In addition to being a Certified Facilitator and Trainer for TIR and Applied Metapsychology (Applied Metapsychology International), I am also a Certified Trauma Specialist with the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). I've specialized in Applied Metapsychology, but I also studied traditional psychology; and I've done basic training in Critical Incident Stress Management & Debriefing. I am happy to make my complete resume available upon request.

VV: What other courses are you currently teaching?

Nancy: I teach the Life Stress Reduction Techniques & Case Planning Workshop, the basic TIR Workshop, the TIR Expanded Applications Workshop, as well as a variety of 1-day introductory workshops on effective communication, disturbance handling and emotional first aid. I also teach the full series of eight Applied Metapsychology Curriculum Workshops. I am interested in equine therapy and, in 2010, I have plans to apprentice with a Certified Equine Specialist, who is also a TIR & Life Stress Reduction facilitator.
